image from: http://www.intechweb.orgIf you’re doing an investigatory project for Science or a term paper for English, your teacher may have told you to use scholarly journals for research. Don’t worry, there are many ways to find scholarly journals. Although you may find only few print journals in the Periodicals Section, you may still access thousands of journals through the online databases subscribed by Rizal Library. A lot of scholarly journals are also being made available online for free. Full-text articles from these journals can be downloaded without any fee. Hence, they are referred to as open access journals.

Philippine Poverty

  • PDF

“Poverty is a significant problem, and in combination with high income inequality, it poses a serious threat to stability in the Philippines. The proportion of the population living below US$1.25 a day in 2006 was 23 percent or around 20 million people. At the same time, about 44 percent or over 40 million Filipinos were living on less than US$2 a day. While the Philippines was able to reduce poverty incidence from as high as 30 percent in the early 1990s, the actual number of people living in poverty has increased over the last two decades. The global food and fuel price crises in 2007 and 2008, and the global economic crisis that followed, are estimated to have pushed even more people into poverty.
