[Book Review] The Blood of Olympus

By: John Henry V. De Guzman (10-Xavier)

There are many books that I have read and enjoyed like novels with genres such as romance, adventure, history, and many more. But the book that I really enjoyed the most and left a mark on me is the last book of the Heroes of Olympus series, The Blood of Olympus.

This series is the second batch of books that Rick Riordan had written ever since the Percy Jackson series. This is due to the large amount of fans that have been requesting him to make a new set of books for a continuation. To be honest, I am one of them. Ever since I started reading the first book of the series of the second batch, The Lost Hero, I loved it and continued reading it until I reached my favorite book in the series.

I like all the books of the Heroes of Olympus but the last one is my most favorite. I recommend everyone to read it without skipping the other books because it will ruin the story for two reasons. First, all of the books are about these demigods from two teams: the demigods from the Roman gods’ side and the demigods from the Greek gods’ side. Both of these teams were against each other at first since their parents are technically one. The gods were having an identity crisis; they thought that the other side was against them since they make their parents conflict with themselves. But thanks to the leaders of each camp namely Percy Jackson and Jason Grace, they ended up teaming with each other against their enemies. Second, there were numerous enemies that they faced and the worst of them all were the giants who kidnapped Hera in the past books. This is the reason why they had to team up and kill the giants with the help of their godly parents. However, in the near end of the story, there was a big surprise. Gaea, or Mother Earth, had awakened to destroy them.

Do you think they will be able to stop her and her army of giants? This book shows how these demigods worked together using their strength and wit to guide the gods, who have lost and forgotten who they were in Greek form, and faced challenges that Gaea had prepared to prolong them from stopping her awakening which means doomsday for everyone since the Earth is literally her.

This book has it all and I recommend everyone to read it because it taught me more about Greek mythology and made me realize how interesting Greek mythology can be! This made me learn so much about the Greek gods and their uniqueness. This taught me that even though you are a small few with your friends, and even if you are against the world, you can overcome if you believe. This would definitely get 10 out of 10 from me because its adventures were very interesting and were based on events from Greek mythology.
